Recycling Coordinator Posting

This position is part of a worker collective in a consensus-based organisation. All full-time staff at Free Geek receive the same wage, regardless of position or seniority, and are eligible for an excellent benefits package.   • Maintain and supervise recycling and receiving areas in a busy, high-volume warehouse
  • Schedule recycled material pickups with recycling/transportation vendors
  • Record quantity and weight data from vendors for use in monthly/yearly reports
  • Organise recycled materials in the warehouse; keep warehouse organised and clean
  • Build and organise skids of recyclables
  • Pallet jack operation (training is available)
  • Document procedures and processes
  • Maintain safety policy compliance in warehouse and receiving area
  • Train and support volunteer workers to perform required recycling tasks
  • Interact with visitors and computer donors
  • Communicate regularly with other Free Geek coordinators, and participate in collective management structure and peer reviews
  • Attend relevant workgroup and staff meetings

Required Skills

  • Warehouse management/supervisory experience in a fast-paced setting
  • Solid familiarity with computer hardware (including components and peripherals)
  • Excellent organisational capacity
  • Basic computer knowledge, use of web browser, email and word processor
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently
  • Patient and courteous with the public and volunteers
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kgs (50 lbs)

Bonus Points

  • Experience in a distribution warehouse context
  • Ability to recognise valuable computer hardware (e.g. in demand, unique, vintage)
  • Current occupational first aid certificate
  • Interest in free and open source software
  • Experience training others
  • Consensus experience; experience in non-hierarchical organisations
  • Interest in environmental issues related to electronic waste
  • Familiarity with Free Geek's mandate, documentation and current programs
  • Volunteering experience at Free Geek
