Laptop Build Coordinator

This position is part of a worker collective in a consensus-based organisation. All full-time staff at Free Geek receive the same wage, regardless of position or seniority, and are eligible for an excellent benefits package.   • Develop and support the Laptop Build Program
  • Supervise the Laptop Build Room
  • Coordinate with other staff to maintain stock
  • Support the store in handling customer laptop issues and warranty claims.
  • Standardise training of laptop builders
  • Educate and mentor volunteers with an emphasis on interdependence
  • Coordinate volunteer laptop builders and instructors
  • Provide regular feedback and oversee evaluation of prospective builders
  • Ensure the standardisation and quality of built laptops
  • Collect statistical data related to the program, including inventory, dispersal, and volunteer resources
  • Prepare reports
  • Develop and maintain documentation on laptop building
  • Communicate regularly with other Free Geek coordinators and participate in collective management structure
  • Attend staff and relevant workgroup meetings

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Laptop assembly and repair
  • Familiarity with free and open source software
  • Strong experience managing volunteers, students or other human resources; organised and able to delegate to others.
  • Enjoy and have experience working with a variety of people
  • Teaching/mentoring experience
  • Ability to problem solve/troubleshoot
  • Aptitude for multi-tasking; patient, flexible and positive-minded
