Changing Caps

Temp rating should match.

Volt can be higher, as is the uF, don't go too high on the uF as it can cause issues.

Models that have been successfully repaired

BENQ

FP731

OPEN - Starts from bottom, middle(blade), then guitar pic to corner. Blade again at corner 2" in.

    - Lift bail bar to remove signal data cable

DIAG - NO PWR

Mod#Q7T3, Manf. Jan 2005

Problem - Solder lugs for AC in arc'd out and burned away solder. Whole connector fell away from PCB when dissembled.

Solution - re-solder plug

FP757

OPEN - Remove the two screws above base on back

    - slide 'down' stand, stiff, but slides out
    - remove 3 screws at bottom
    - start at bottom, guitar pick around edges, top last
    - unplug control panel cable from side
    - clips hold lcd inut to front, start from sides and unclip, lift out
    - under metalic stickers are a total of 4 cables to undo, 2 connector for lights (round wire) and 2 flat ribbon cables, to release the ribbon cables gently pull up the dark bar, it will hinge up and the ribon cable will slide out
   - remove the 4 scrws around the edge and lift circuitry away
   - remove pcb screws and clips around edge, both circuit baords, you also have to remove the nuts for the video connector


DIAG - Power light blinks, no picture

Problem - bad caps, specifically C707 and C709. Other possable points of failure: broken solder leads on D701, D702, IC701, and Q601. caps C751, C712, C703

Solution - replace caps C707 and C709. (both 16V/1000uF, ok to use 25V/1000uF)

Prevention/life-extension - resolder leads of D701, D702, IC701, and Q601, put a loose sheath (fiberglass works good) over C707, C709, C751, C712, C703 (can be held on with a dab of hot glue)

- replaced C829 capacitor 1000uF 16v

Remove 2 screws near the place where stand is attached. Use blade to open case.

Power supply PCB is under the metal box.

Radioshack sells 1000uF 35v capacitors for $1.59
