Welcome to Free Geek's Cisco page. We don't really dive too deep into Cisco stuff, but you will find some helpful things here for preparing Cisco gear for resale. These instructions assume you have access to the console on the Cisco gear already.
Resetting to "Factory Defaults"
7200 VXR series
1)Send break signal after power up, you should see: rommon 1 >
Answer yes to the enable "ignore system config info?" question and note the current configuration register settings.
4) answer no to the question, you should shortly see Router(boot)>
5) to clear the NVRAM(this will kill the password too) type: erase startup-config
800 Series Routers
The following is for 801, 802, 803, 804, 805, 811, and 813 Series Routers
1)Send break signal after power up
2)Type set ios-conf = 142 at the boot# prompt.
3)Type boot at the boot# prompt in order to initialize the router.
The router reboots, but ignores the saved configuration.
4)Type no after each setup question, or press Ctrl-C in order to skip the initial setup procedure.
5)Type enable at the Router> prompt.
6) Type the following commands, pressing enter after each
- configure terminal
- config-register 0x2142
