Volunteer Discount
Volunteers with more than 12 hours service in the last 90 days are eligible for a 40% discount in the Thrift Store on most items. Exceptions:
- No discount on laptops.
- No discount on the machines with one of the following CPU (or more recent): Intel Core2, AMD k10 series.
Return Policy
No Refunds - No Exceptions.
- However, you have seven days to return non-functioning items. You must bring the receipt.
- We may be flexible about timing but this is entirely at the discretion of the Sales Coordinator.
- There is no warranty for use of items other than the originally intended use.
- We can help in determining what you need, but it is your responsibility to find out what you have and what it will work with.
- If an item is marked UNTESTED, AS IS, or NO RETURN, then the sale is final. Caveat Emptor. Prices for such items reflect the fact that we don't know if they work, and we aren't prepared to find out - either by testing it ourselves or by seeing you return it (except for recycling).
Policy for Specific Items
Systems
We will support the complete GNU/Linux systems we sell if you have not significantly modified the operating system or hardware. Our tech support staff will address one issue, and pursue it to completion. If it is determined that the box is DOA or is failing catastrophically we will exchange it for a similar system.
ONCE YOU INSTALL WINDOWS ON ONE OF OUR MACHINES THE SEVEN-DAY WARRANTY IS VOIDED. PERIOD. If you must install Windows on one of our store boxes please 'burn it in' under GNU/Linux for a period and determine that there is nothing physically wrong with the machine before you delete our operating system -- and your recourse.
Printers
We will exchange for an equivalent printer within one week of purchase. If we are unsure of the cause of the problem, i.e. our machine or your drivers, we may retest the printer in question with our test protocols.
Monitors
Exchange without question within one week of purchase with receipt.
Motherboards and Cards
At the discretion of the Sales/Production Coordinators. If you bring us back a 'board repeatedly and with the same problem, then we may retest it in order to determine if the board was faulty when we sent it out or has been abused through ignorance or negligence.
Holds Policy
- Depending on the item, we will hold it for you up to a week. For more popular items, the hold time will be less. Contact the Sales Coordinator (sales@freegeekvancouver.org) for more info.
- We never take partial payment/deposits.
Technical Support
- Open Source Help night is on Wednesday 7-9.30pm, and is the time set aside purely for technical support. This is the best time to receive help with technical issues you might be having.
- We do not offer technical support in the store, either in person or over the phone. Depending on how busy we are that day there may be someone on site to help, but we cannot guarantee this.
- All testing occurs in a Ubuntu environment, but we cannot guarantee that our tested items work in other operating systems.
- Sorry, but we absolutely do not delve into Windows issues.
