Finance

Budget

  • Discussed year-to-date earnings from last year and Nigel presented a preliminary budget. The budget is available for review – please contact Nigel.


Grants

  • Nigel is looking into grants and Free Geek's charitable status.

Operations

Build / Production

  • Still need more builders. Some laptop builders have been seconded from the laptop area as a stopgap.

H & S

  • Server has been moved to the new server room and has improved the sound levels around the kitchen.


Warehouse

  • No report.

Software

  • No report.

Volunteers

  • As noted above, we need more builders, and have begun actively advertising for volunteers via Craigslist. Brian M. recommends we canvass currently inactive build-qualified volunteers to ask what we could do to get them more involved.

Outgoing

Nigel is looking into getting Free Geek labels which we can put on every item we sell. He currently has found a quote from one printer.

HW Grants

  • First laptop hardware grants ever.

15 laptops loaned to Forest Ethics for workshop web training.\ 12 laptops for Charles Dickens Elementary School in Vancouver. Also the usual numbers of desktop systems.

Communications

Education

  • Working group is working on developing 4 courses initially, and as many as 10 others later, for delivery at Free Geek, libraries, and other remote locations. The group is receiving assistance from VanLug and Ubuntu Vancouver.

Events / Media

  • We attended Coinfest Feb 15 and 16.

On Thursday February 20 we will be hosting a press conference at which Parks Commissioner Sarah Blyth will be giving a reclaimed cell phone to two senior citizens as part of her Cell Phones for Seniors initiative.

Staff / HR

  • Marcus Dunn has completed his time with us. Kaitlynn has joined us as an intern via YWCA youth program.

  • Board is finalizing the budget.
