Work Steps

  1. Place a monitor on the test platform and connect both a power plug and a monitor connection, usually VGA (the blue one).
  2. Turn on the monitor, if it doesn't turn on or turns off again → FAIL
  3. Change the settings on the monitor:
    • Contrast: 85%
    • Brightness: 85%
    • Colour Temperature: 9300K
  4. If the monitor is not a Flat Screen LED, select Degauss from the monitor's menu
  5. From a distance 60cm away (3 regular-sized rulers), compare the monitor with the reference monitor
    • Does it flicker? → FAIL
    • Is it blurry? → FAIL
    • Are the colours not clear? Is there colour on the white line? → FAIL
    • Is it too dim? → FAIL
  6. Put a sticker with the current hour and minute on the plastic edge of the screen
  7. After an hour from the sticker time, recheck the monitor
  8. If the monitor has passed then put on a green sticker, bundle an appropriate power supply and store it with other passed monitors for later use

If this is one of your first times working at the Monitor Station then get a fellow volunteer who has had experience at the Monitor Station to do a quick double-check for you when you reach a FAIL
  1. Disconnect all cables attached to the monitor
  2. Put an "X" on the plastic edge of the screen and put it in the failed monitor section for it to be packaged for recycling
    • If there is a special cord for it then put that cord in the cord box of receiving
